Ultima 3 Versions
Ultima 3: Exodus was released for numerous different homecomputer systems and also made an appearance on the NES. The gameplay in all the versions is the same. Some puzzles and the controls have been slightly changed for the NES version, since it lacks a keyboard.

Apple II |
Year: 1983 |
This is the original system, Ultima 3 was designed for. The graphics are OK... for an Apple II game. If you want to check out the roots of Ultima 3, then try this version, otherwise don't touch it. |

Atari 400/800 |
Year: 1983 |
A decent version. The music is quite good and gameplay remains unchanged, although the reaction on keyboard commands is a bit slow. You might want to play other versions first, but you won't be disappointed by this one. |

Atari ST |
Year: 1986 |
I couldn't find a (working) rom for this game so far and so I wasn't able to play this version. But from all I have read, it is very similar to the Commodore Amiga version, which should make it a recommended version. |

Commodore 64 |
Year: 1983 |
This is perhaps the best 8-bit computer version. Playability is very high. Graphics and sound surely don't win any awards, but they are good enough, especially for a game that was released in 1983 (a time without any 16-bit versions on the market). |

Commodore Amiga |
Year: 1986 |
Nice. Very nice indeed. Music that doesn't hurt your ears and improved graphics make this version stand out among the early homecomputer versions. Of course the Amiga could do much better, but it looked good for 1986. I strongly recommend playing this version if you want the original feeling of Ultima 3 and don't like the somewhat different NES version. |

Gameboy Color (Unofficial Freeware) |
Year: ? |
This version is the result of a fan project by Sven Carlberg. Although it uses a menu based commands, it resembles more the computer versions than the NES version. |

Macintosh |
Year: 1986 |
I haven't played this version yet. It is different from other versions due to its menu driven interface and mouse control. The graphics are only B&W. In how far this has an influence on the gameplay, I don't know.

Macintosh Remake (Shareware) |
Year: ? |
Definitely the most beautiful and enhanced version, this remake was developed by software developer "Lairware". It's indeed the ultimate version of the game. Just too sad its not a Windows game. The screenshots have been taken from the Lairware Homepage. |

MS-DOS |
Year: 1983 |
Well in the early 80's, PCs weren't the best gaming machines. The DOS version of Ultima 3 proves exactly that. 4-color CGA graphics make this version look ugly. Music isn't available at all, which isn't that bad because this would have meant using the PC-Speaker. Gameplay is OK though and its fast... actually much too fast for modern PCs to handle it without patches or slowdown-tools. |

MSX 2 |
Year: 1988 |
A very rare version released only in Japan on cartridge. As much as I know, it is very similar to the NES version.

NES |
Year: 1987 |
The gamepad control and menu based commands makes gameplay a bit slower than in the computer versions. But they improved the graphics and added some (average) tunes. Some puzzles have been slightly changed and some names also, but all in all everything is in the right place. An overall good version.

PC-98x1 (Pony Canyon release) |
Year: 1989 |
I haven't played it, but from what I could see on small screenshots, the Pony Canyon remake seems to be a real improvement to the Starcraft release. It had much more and better graphics. Just too bad its Japanese only of course. Nevertheless it seems to be a brilliant version.
